Derek Allan Strong

Born in Port-aux-Basques and raised in Corner Brook, Derek Allan Strong is a skilled singer/songwriter who has performed his original music all across Canada. Beginning his professional music career in the 1980s, he acted as the lead singer of top 40 cover band Hanover Fist while also leading a successful broadcasting career at Corner Brook’s
CFCB radio station. In 1998, while living in BC, Derek recorded and released his debut full-length album, “I’ll Be There.” The project was met with extensive airplay across the country and rave reviews from critics and the public. After taking some time away from the spotlight, Derek returned to the music scene in 2024 with the release of his single, “What If It’s Alright,” recorded in downtown St. John’s with renowned musicians, Robert Kelly, Madeline Carter, and Aaron Collis. The single has amassed over 12,000 streams on Spotify. Derek currently lives with his family in Torbay, NL and performs regularly at St. John’s venues such as Quidi Vidi Brewery, Big Ben’s Pub, and Bridie Molloys.
