Lorne Elliott

I started going on stage at a time when hair like mine was fashionable, and I hung a guitar hung around my neck to complete the look. Somewhere around that time people started laughing at me, and I saw no reason why I shouldn’t join them.

Biography Canadian born LORNE ELLIOTT has performed from Newfoundland to New York City, from Los Angeles to Australia and points in between. Lorne started performing in 1974 as a folk musician in East Coast Canada. At the same time he kept writing fiction as well as songs, monologues and one-liners. The outcome of such a training is a very special show of comedy and music, totally original, entertaining, foolish and uplifting. Along with his unique performance style it is the timelessness of his material, joined with keen observations on today’s trends that make LORNE ELLIOTT ‘s work so special.

LORNE ELLIOTT has performed his one-man show in theatres, universities and comedy clubs. He has shared concert stages with numerous comedy business personalities in the US and Canada and made regular appearances at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival since it started in 1986.

As well as being a humorist, storyteller and musician, Lorne is also a playwright. One of his plays, “The Night The Racoons Went Berserk” won the Best New Play Award at the Quebec Drama Festival 1983 and it was produced at the Charlottetown Theatre Festival in 1986 along with “Culture Shock”, another comedy of his which has been produced across Canada since 1981: it was filmed by CBC TV in 1989.
“The Pelley Papers” was premiered at Upper Canada Playhouse in September 1995.
“Tourist Trap” was premiered in August 2000 at Theatre On The Grand in Fergus (Ontario) and it has had several productions across Canada since then. His play “How I Broke Into Showbiz” was produced in Charlottetown in 2005 and again in Hudson (Quebec) in 2015.
“Culture Shock – The Musical” premiered in July 2009 at the Stephenville Theatre festival.
Lorne received the 2012 Playwrights Guild of Canada New Musical Play Award for his play “”Jamie Rowsell Lives”. Again in 2015, Playwrights Guild of Canada, recognized his work by giving him the Comedy Award for his play “MOM RUNS AMOK”.
He has also written screenplays and TV Comedies, skits and revues. For CBC he did TV Comedy Variety shows, among others “What Else is On” and “Lorne Elliott’s Really Rather Quite Half-Decent TV Special”.
“Madly Off In All Directions”, was Lorne’s own CBC Radio Comedy Series taped in concerts across Canada. It was greeted with such enthusiastic audience response that the Series went on for 11 Seasons till Fall 2006. His latest project for CBC is titled “Chasing The Big Silly”.
He regularly tours his one-man concert performance The Lorne Elliott Comedy Show: “The Collected Mistakes” on the stages of North American Theatres.
In 2009, Acorn Press published his novella titled “The Fixer-Upper” based on his play “Tourist Trap”. In July 2013 Acorn Press published his first novel titled “Beach Reading” and it has been selected as a finalist for the Hugh MacLennan fiction prize in the Quebec Writers Federation 2013 Awards.
Another novel, “The Goat In The Tree”, was published in 2014 by Guernica Editions.

Currently Lorne tours his one-man concert show “The Collected Mistakes” on the stages of North American Theatres.
